Orange doesn’t always have to be intensely bright. Ochre, for example, is an earthy pigment that varies from a golden yellow shade to a light yellow brown colour. The most ancient of all organic pigments, ochre was used widely in prehistoric art, most notably in Palaeolithic murals found in a series of magnificently painted caves in France.
From autumn leaves to fields of wheat, ochre tones are associated with all things natural. When used in decorating, they instantly evoke a cosy and intimate feel, making them a perfect choice for bedrooms or in any space where you want to make guests feel at home. Ochre looks particularly glorious with timber flooring and natural furnishings, such as a textured sisal rug or accessories in leather and cork.
